The Salesian Scholars Seminar 2014 is underway in Stella Niagara, New York. Normally Wendy Wright and Joe Chorpenning jointly chair the sessions, but just the day before we were to gather Joe Chorpenning was summoned to the hospital where his sister was undergoing treatments. Yesterday morning she died. So Wendy has been the chair for the discussions.
The theme this year has been Love in Salesian spirituality. The idea comes from the fact that we are approaching the fourth centenary of the publishing of the Treatise on the Love of God by Saint Francis de Sales (1616-2016). However, since most of my time has been spent on preparing Salesians for the bicentenary of the birth of Saint John Bosco (1815-2015), I wrote my article on Don Bosco and the Salesian spirit. That will be discussed tomorrow. I'll see how it goes over with this group.
As usual, the seminar so far is very informative, intense, and enjoyable.
